The Baby-Sitters Little Sister graphic novels give readers a peek into what it’s like to be the younger sibling. The second book, Karen’s Roller Skates, has finally arrived, and we couldn’t be more excited! Karen’s stories are filled with lots of laughs, big adventures, and life lessons about growing up and figuring out who you are. Here are a few things we’ve learned from the Baby-Sitters Little Sister series so far!

Life Lessons We Learned from the Baby-Sitters Little Sister Graphic Novels:

Learn from Your Mistakes:

If there’s anything we’ve learned from Karen Brewer, is that it’s okay to mess up sometimes. Figuring things out and making mistakes is a part of growing up. We don’t always say or do the exact right thing, and that’s okay as long as we learn from the mistakes we make.

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself! Unrealistic expectations are impossible to live up to, and you’ll only stress yourself out. Instead, always try your best, be kind, and keep an open mind. If you do mess up, your friends and family will be there with big hugs and words of encouragement.

Never Judge Someone Without All the Facts:

In the first Baby-Sitters Little Sister graphic novel, Karen is convinced that her neighbor is a witch. She’s got all the telltale signs – grey hair, a cat named Midnight, and a huge herb garden that she uses for spells. When Karen takes things too far, it totally backfires! She ends up hurting her BFF, her family, and herself in the process.

It’s easy to judge someone when you don’t have all the facts, but if you’re anything like Karen, you’ll quickly learn that you should always try to get to know someone before passing judgment. You never know, they could become your new best friend!

Family Isn’t Perfect, But it’s Everything:

If anyone knows about family, it’s Karen Brewer. Since her parents got divorced, she now has two houses and two families! She also has one of the most supportive families we’ve ever seen, and it’s something we can all learn from.

Being a family doesn’t mean getting along 100% of the time – they take a lot of patience and hard work. There are always going to be bad days and bumps in the road, but it’s the way you treat each other that is most important. Karen’s family fights sometimes, but they are always there to listen and offer advice and support. Her older step-sister Kristy doesn’t write her off because she’s the younger sister. Instead, she does her best to make Karen feel included. It’s actions and moments like these that make a family perfect!

Dream Big:

Karen’s endlessly wild imagination is her best quality. Her curiosity and big dreams are what drives every single one of her adventures – both good and bad!

It’s easy to get stuck in a routine, but it’s those times you break free of your comfort zone that you end up learning the most. There’s comfort in knowing exactly what is going to happen, but if you never try anything new, you’ll miss out on so many life experiences. If Karen never laced up her roller skates, think of all she’d have missed out on! The same goes for you. Even if things go wrong, it’s always best to put yourself out there and go for it!
