Sarah Kay Jolly on her Acting Inspirations, Travel Goals, and More!

Sarah Kay Jolly is an up-and-coming actress with big dreams and huge talent. She’s already landed roles in everything from print ads to commercials to independent films and TV. She’s currently starring as Young Teddie on the critically acclaimed Netflix series, Grace and Frankie. When she’s not on set, Sarah loves relaxing with her dogs, watching YouTube, journaling, and spending time with her friends.

Get to know Sarah as she discusses her acting inspirations, where she dreams of traveling, which fictional squad she’d like to hang out with, and more!

Get to Know Sarah Kay Jolly:

How did you first become interested in acting?

SARAH KAY JOLLY: I started acting when I was about 9 years old, and I instantly fell in love with it. I started in community theater and then began taking acting classes for television and film. After signing with an agent and manager, I started dividing my time between Colorado and Los Angeles. Once I booked my first job, a promo spot for MythBusters in which I got to explode a mud volcano, I was hooked!

When you land a new role, how do you prepare and get into character?

SARAH: I try to think about how the character I’m playing relates to me in real life. It important to be organic and real, so I try to behave like I would if I were in the character’s situation. I really just act like myself, while still adopting the quirks and uniqueness of the character.

Who is an actor or actress who has inspired you?

SARAH: AnnaSophia Robb has always been one of my favorite actresses. Her movie Soul Surfer was one of the main reasons I love acting so much. I thought it was incredible how she could transform into a totally different person when the camera started rolling.

 

If you could hang out with the fictional friend group from any TV or movie, who would you choose?

SARAH: Without question, I would 100% want to hang out with the kids from Stranger Things. They seem really fun and have such strong friendships. I would LOVE to be a part of their friend group.

 

What are some things you like to do for fun?

SARAH: I love journaling and drawing. I also love to read poetry! It’s super relaxing. When I’m not doing that, I enjoy going to the gym, hanging out with friends and playing with my dogs, Humphrey and Paddington.

Can you share a dream or goal you have for the future?

SARAH: Of course I dream of landing a breakthrough role, but my day to day goal is to make an impact on other people. So many different people have impacted my life and helped inspire me. Whether it’s through acting, community involvement or sharing personal experiences, my goal will always be to give back and inspire others.

Where is somewhere you’d like to travel and why?

SARAH: I would LOVE to travel to Hawaii. It’s such a beautiful place with the beaches and waterfalls. I really want to attend college at the University of Hawaii! One of my goals for this year is to travel there and tour the college.

Do you have any advice for other young aspiring actors and actresses out there?

SARAH: Learn to face rejection gracefully. Rejection will probably one of the hardest things to deal with during your acting career. For every one audition that you get a callback on, there could be fifty that you don’t. It’s not personal. It doesn’t mean that you aren’t good enough, you just may not be right for that particular role. Never give up! Pursue your dreams, and in the end, it will all be worth it.
