Ravenous

If you loved “Monstrous” by MarcyKate Connolly, you’re going to absolutely love “Ravenous”! “Ravenous” is inspired by the classic fairytale “Hansel and Gretel”, but it’s a completely new retelling featuring a very evil witch, a brother who gets captured and a sister who’ll do anything to save him. “Ravenous” is not exactly a sequel, it’s more of a companion (it takes place in the same city, but focuses on different characters), so if you haven’t read “Monstrous” yet, it’s totally okay (and recommended!) that you pick up this book up and snuggle up with some gingerbread and hot chocolate.

Ravenous - MarcyKate Connolly
The story takes place 3 months after the events of “Monstrous”, when an evil witch comes to Bryre city. She travels in a hut that has chicken feet and she is absolutely ravenous for children. Whenever she gets something she wants she never lets it go, which is a huge problem for Greta, because the witch captures her brother Hans! Greta refuses to let the witch have Hans, and instead, strikes up a deal with her to secure her brother’s freedom. Greta must head out on an epic quest to Belladoma, a city where she was once held captive and nearly eaten by a monster to retrieve something the witch wants to help save her brother. Along the way, Greta meets Dalen, a magical boy who is half horse who she befriends, and we also see glimpses of some characters we met in “Monstrous.” On her journey, Greta must overcome her foes as well as her own weaknesses in order to make things right again.

“Ravenous”
is exciting, heartbreaking, clever, and full of secrets. MarcyKate Connolly is a fantastic writer and the book is filled with one-liners that you’ll absolutely love (like the one above). Paired with “Monstrous”, things piece together so well and build out a fantastic fantasy world we just can’t wait to see more from. Fingers crossed that “Ravenous” is not the end of this series!

Included in the book is also a bonus story called “Precious”, which is a prequel to “Monstrous” and “Ravenous”, making this book even more worthwhile to pick up! Extra bonus stories are ALWAYS welcome to us bookworms. “Ravenous” is now available both in digital and hardcover formats, but with such a gorgeous cover, we can’t imagine you’d want it any other way!
