NAT A CHANCE: Nat Shares Her Guide to Getting Out of Your Own Way in this EXCLUSIVE Minicomic

Nat is back – and in Nat a Chance by Maria Scrivan, she’s training for a triathlon. (or at least, she’s trying to!)

Nat has been through a lot since we first met her in the first book, Nat Enough. From bestie betrayals to making new friends, navigating tricky crushes and summer camp squabbles, and trying new things, Nat’s anxiety and self-doubt are always lurking in her mind, ready to shake her confidence and make her feel like she isn’t cool enough, talented enough, or brave enough to face the challenges that come her way.

Thankfully, Nat always seems to figure things out, even through the setbacks and the awkward moments, showing readers that they can handle anything, too. That’s the best part about Nat’s stories, right? They’re funny, sure, but they’re also incredibly relatable. She’s facing the same struggles we all do in middle school and proves to readers over and over that it’s okay not to have it all figured out as long as you put yourself out there and try your best.

In Nat a Chance, Nat doesn’t feel like an athlete. She’s never been sporty and has always been kinda clumsy. So when her best friend, Zoe, ditches volleyball for the Triathlon Club, she convinces Nat to join her. Nat doubts that she’ll be able to handle it, but starts training anyway, determined to push through and prove to herself that she can. But training for a triathlon is hard, and Nat faces so many challenges and setbacks along the way, leaving her wondering if she should give up altogether. You’ll have to read it to find out how everything plays out, but we’ve got a treat for you!

One of the biggest lessons throughout the entire series (but especially in Nat a Chance) is that you’ll never know if you don’t try, and a lot of times Nat’s biggest challenges are learning to squash her self-doubts and get out of her own way, something we can all take to heart.

That’s why we’re celebrating the sixth book in the Nat Enough series, Nat a Chance, by Maria Scrivan, with an exclusive minicomic where Nat dishes some of her best advice for our readers.

Nat’s Guide to Getting Out of Your Own Way:

Four panel comic featuring Nat from Nat a Chance. Header features Nat, a girl with a short brown bob and round thin framed glasses waving. She is wearing a pink sweater with a red heart. The header reads: "Nat's Guide to Getting Out of Your Own Way by Maria Scrivan" Comic panel one shows Nat laying on the floor doodling. There is a box of crayons, doodles, pages of blank paper, a book, and a stray sock surrounding her. Her orange cat with a toy mouse are next to her and her brown dog is curled up napping on her back. There is a thought bubble above her head that shows her riding a bike. Nat's advice text reads, "Be more of who you are" Comic panel two features two versions of Nat side by side. On the left side, she is small and scared with a large purple monster representing fear towering over her, making a scary face. On the right side, Nat is larger and more confident, similar in side to the fear monster with a speech bubble that rads "Go Away!" The fear monster looks surprised and no longer scary. Nat's advice text reads, "Don't Let Fear Stop You" Comic panel three is taken over by round fuzzy monsters with pointy teeth wearing sneakers. They are more cute than scary looking. Their fur is colorful and they are each holding signs. The signs read "You can't do it!", "You're the WORST!", and "STOP! Don't even bother." Nat's advice text reads "Ignore the Doubt Gremlins" Comic panel four is a close up of Nat's smiling face with three thought bubbles surrounding her. One is of her swimming, one shows her biking, and one is her running. Nat's advice text reads "Believe that you can"
