With so many amazing podcasts on the rise, like Wow in the World and Eleanor Amplified, we’re always on the lookout for a new series to gush over. That’s how we discovered Pinna, a brand new podcast app filled with amazing serialized adventures, audiobooks, interactive game shows, immersive mysteries, and other fun content. Every show featured in the app is made with YOU in mind, featuring thrilling stories that are as well written as your favorite book and as entertaining as your favorite TV show.
Many of the shows found in the Pinna app are produced using 360-degree audio. This makes Pinna’s podcasts perfect for listening with headphones on while doing your homework. One thing that really stood out to us was that most of the hosts and voice actors are kids and teens, making each podcast feel like hanging out with your BFFs. Every bit of programming we checked out was produced with high-quality audio, sound effects, voice acting, and writing – all the things you’ve grown to expect from your favorite podcasts.
In our opinion, two series really shined above the rest while checking out the Pinna app, The Ghost of Jessica Majors and The Unexplainable Disappearance of Mars Patel. If you’re not sure where to start on your podcast adventure, we definitely recommend these fantastic series.
The Ghost of Jessica Majors
We got major Are You Afraid of the Dark?/Goosebumps vibes from this series. A little bit spooky, a little bit mysterious, it’s an excellent choice to listen to in a blanket fort with the lights off or for a thrilling paranormal scare at a sleepover.
Jessica Majors is eleven-years-old, or a hundred fifty-two if you include all the years she’s been dead. After her mysterious death in 1875, she returns as a ghost in 2017 to find a world much different than the one she left behind. With the help of her eleven-year-old descendent Luke, and his soon-to-be step-sister Dahlia, she must confront the supernatural forces threatening the quaint town of Curiosity Maine. Ages 9+.
The Unexplainable Disappearance of Mars Patel
This series is described as “The Goonies meets Spy Kids meets Stranger Things”, and we’d have to agree. It’s just as amazing as all 3 of those things! This serialized mystery is a great listen for a family road trip or on your own – but be warned; you’ll 100% want to binge-listen!
Listen along as eleven-year-old-Mars Patel and his pals JP, Toothpick, and Caddie set out on an audacious adventure in search of two missing friends. The mysterious tech billionaire Oliver Pruitt might have a thing-or-two to say about their quest, because as he likes to say “to the stars!” In fact, that’s just where they might be headed…
We also really enjoyed Season Isle – a fantasy adventure about twins living on an island made of seasons, ExtraBLURT – an interactive trivia game show, and Good Sport! – a sports podcast that gives listeners insight into what their favorite sports stars were like when they were young. New shows and episodes are being added all the time, so there’s always a new series to discover. We heard that they’ll be releasing a choose-your-own-adventure style podcast soon, which we’re absolutely here for.
There are no ads to be found while browsing the app OR while listening, which makes for a really enjoyable experience. (There’s only so many times you can listen to someone try to sell you an audiobook or a mattress before you totally lose your mind!) In order to keep producing high-quality shows and keep the app ad-free, Pinna uses a subscription-based model. You get access to every episode of every show for just $7.99/month. (Or a discounted rate of $79.99/year) They’re basically the Netflix of podcasts!
Pinna is available to download for free on iOS devices via the App Store. Be sure to get your parents permission before downloading or signing up.
