OK K.O.! Lakewood Plaza Turbo
Remember back in 2013 when Cartoon Network released the pilot for Steven Universe, as well as a few other shows on the CN website? The reason they do this is to help them figure out which shows everyone likes the best, and then turn those shorts into real shows. You may remember that at the same time as Steven Universe’s pilot was up on the CN site, there was also a pilot for a show called Lakewood Plaza Turbo, a cartoon about a strip mall for and staffed by super heroes. It was filled with everything you could really ever ask for – boring customer services job jokes, video game references, and kick-butt super heroes. (Pilot is here in case you need a refresher) Since 3 years have come and gone since then, everyone thought the show would never see the light of day, but today it’s finally back – in mobile game form!
The game is called OK K.O.! Lakewood Plaza Turbo and it’s everything you could hope for in a game about a mall for superheroes. The game is a take on the beat ’em up genre, where you play as KO, beating up everyone in sight in order to protect your precious mini-mall from Lord Boxman and his evil army of robots. As the official game description says “Become the hero you always know you could be, and send that bum packing!”
As you fight your way through the game, you’ll go on quests, unlock powerful moves/attacks, and lots of awesome items to help you along the way! Help your boss, Mr. Gar (that angry looking shirtless dude wearing a tie and sunglasses) rebuild Lakewood Plaza and meet the other characters along the way, including Enid and Radicles, your coworkers. Did we mention that your MOM is the one who teaches you new fighting techniques? Yup, it’s true. Coolest. Mom. Ever. Between the baddie butt kicking and the questing, you can find secrets hidden throughout the plaza. All in all it’s a really fun game, and for the totally solid price of FREE, you’ll be glad you downloaded it.
Cartoon Network will also be holding a Game Jam in Portland next week where all the developers who attend will spend 48 straight hours working on Lakewood Plaza Turbo themed games. This means we’ll be seeing much more from this game in the very near future. We should be seeing more from the show soon too, as they’ve also teamed up with a bunch of animation studios to create Lakewood Plaza Turbo shorts that will go on the CN site (and probably the CN Anything app too).
Now, go put on your least sweaty sweat band, pick up your favorite mobile device (the game is for both iOS and Android), and get to the butt-kickery that is OK K.O.! Lakewood Turbo Plaza!
