Misfit City #2: Thrills, Friendship, and Code Cracking
Misfit City #2 is out today from BOOM! Studios and TBH, this should excite you quite a bit. Why? Because four best friends following a mysterious treasure map around their town is about as exciting as it gets! Misfit City started last month, and this second issue is even better. We should also tell you that we might be a little biased because we got to meet creators Kiwi Smith and Kurt Lustgarten at Book Expo two weeks ago and they gave us actual HUGS. Okay fine, we don’t let hugs influence our opinions. Misfit City is just worthy of all our gushing.
In Misfit City #2 we get to see more of the character’s personalities starting to peek out and pop off the page. We start to learn that Dot is super smart and great at research, while Macy always brings the sass. The girls head to the library to begin their attempt at deciphering the strange symbols on the map. It won’t be easy, though. Dot’s mom is the librarian and she’s very intense about using study time for actual studying. The girls will have to work together to crack the code before they can even start looking for the treasure – and they’re totally unaware they’re being followed! This issue really builds the suspense and brings lots of thrills and adventure.
Here’s our Top 3 favorite moments from the issue:
1. Karma knows precisely how long it takes her to eat a sandwich. Her best time is 18 minutes, 3 seconds. She’s the standout character of this issue for us, she’s just so well dressed and all her lines and facial expressions made us chuckle.
2. Getting to hear a bit of the Black Mary backstory, even if it was a little embellished. She’s the baddest pirate that ever was. Intimidated? You should be.
3. “Dot, you spend your life in a building filled with books. How can you be excited by MORE books?” – Macy Stumps
We know that feel so well, Dot. Books are the best. More books always.
Bonus Moment: There’s a poop joke. Hugs may not sway us, but poop jokes always do. Okay, time for some preview pages.
