Doodle Adventures: The Pursuit of the Pesky Pizza Pirate
Ahoy me heartys! Today be Talk Like a Pirate Day, so we figure it the perfect time to tell all ye all about our new favorite book! It be called “Doodle Adventures: The Pursuit of the Pesky Pizza Pirate”, and it’s the second book in the “Doodle Adventures” series by Mike Lowery.
Our mateys at Workman Press were kind enough to send us a copy of the book (and even invited us to meet Mike Lowery in person – he’s absolutely hilarious and super nice, FYI!), and we’ve been itching to tell you guys all about it. SPOILER ALERT: It’s better than uncoverin’ a bag o’ doubloons and even more fun than finding a treasure chest full o’ booty!
As ye already know, we be big fans of books and readin’, but especially books that let you, the reader, get involved in the story. That’s exactly what the hilarious Mike Lowery wants ye to do in his “Doodle Adventures” series. In “The Pursuit of the Pesky Pizza Pirate”, you’ll need to draw, sketch, and doodle all the very important missing story elements that not just help you complete the book, but make it totally your own.
Need to get up to a high place? What would you draw to get up there? A ladder? A giant who can help lift you up? A jet pack so you can fly? The choices are all up to you – there’s no wrong answers. Unlike every other book you’ve ever owned, you get to draw and write all over these pages and use your imagination to bring the story to life.
If you’ve already read the previous book “The Search for the Slimy Space Slugs”, you’re ready to jump right in. If you haven’t – there’s a very special, very angry duck named Carl, you need to meet first. Thankfully, you’ll get a chance to do that at the beginning of “Pesky Pizza Pirate”, so even if you’ve never even heard of the other book, you can enjoy this one. (Though we do suggest grabbing a copy, it’ll add a ton of fun and laughs to your otherwise boring life!)
Carl the Duck is totally annoyed that every pizza place in town is out of pizza, and he needs YOUR help to get him some. If you’ve ever experienced the intense HANGER that comes along with having a serious pizza craving and not be able to get any, you’ll know exactly how Carl feels and you’ll definitely want to help him out.
Along the way, you’ll decode secret notes, doodle important items for your mission, sketch out the missing parts of Carl’s snow globe collection, and figure out exactly what happened to all the missing pizza. How does ALL the pizza in an entire city go missing? We don’t want to spoil it for you, but if we had to guess, we’d point our fingers in the direction of that horrid scallywag The Dread Pirate Slobberts!
Once you’ve drawn your way through the story, you can place it on your bookshelf with pride, knowing that YOU helped write (and doodle) it! Pretty impressive. We’d definitely say that gives you serious bragging rights.
We used a nifty pizza pen to do all of our drawings, but you can use anything from colored pencils to markers to crayons – whatever you’ve got lying around. Yo ho ho – it’s time for all ye to get off yer butts and get doodlin’! “Doodle Adventures: The Pursuit of the Pesky Pizza Pirate” is now available for ye doodlin’ pleasure, so hop in your pirate ship with yer First Mate and the rest of ye crew and sail on over to ye favorite bookstore!
